Replacement Pickups for Rickenbacker® Bass

Late 70's style Classic Rick Button TopTM Bridge Pickup

For Bridge (Treble) position on 4001 and 4003 Bass instruments.
(custom wound upon request)

This replacement pickup is an accurate replacement having the unique tone of the late 70's era bridge pickups which used the round rivet-head poles. I make each one by hand in my shop, this pickup is built with the same materials and methods as original pickups with our improved bobbin core which retains the traditional Rick tone but gives you much more of it.

Scatter-wound with #44 wire on hand-made FR4 bobbin cores, I use much better magnets than the weak compound-rubber OEM magnet, the difference is amazing, with this pickup your Rick can finaly keep up with modern bass pickups, no more weak/lame output. I also use a much better wire-lead method that does away with bare, un-shielded, solder joints under the pickups (per OEM construction). My bridge pickups have the signal wires shielded entirely to the pickup coil for the lowest possible stray hum/noise.

Standard replacement wind is ~8.7K DCR, or if you wish, I will custom wind to your spec at no extra charge.

Late 60's to mid 70's style Classic Rick Flat TopTM Bridge Pickup

For Bridge (Treble) position on 4001 and 4003 Bass instruments.
(custom wound upon request)

This replacement pickup is an accurate replacement having the unique tone of the 60's era bridge pickup which used the pan head slotted screw poles. Our Flat-top poles give the pickup the tone of the early pickup which is a little different response than the later button-top pickup. I make each one by hand in my shop, this pickup is built with the same materials and methods as original pickups with our improved bobbin core which retains the traditional Rick tone but gives you much more of it.

Scatter-wound with #44 wire on hand-made FR4 bobbin cores, I use much better magnets than the weak compound-rubber OEM magnet, the difference is amazing, with this pickup your Rick can finaly keep up with modern bass pickups, but plenty of the Rick tone. I also use a much better wire-lead method that does away with bare, un-shielded, solder joints under the pickups (per OEM construction). My bridge pickups have the signal wires shielded entirely to the pickup coil for the lowest possible stray hum/noise.

Late 70's style Classic Button TopTM Neck Pickup

For Neck (Bass) position on 4001 and 4003 Bass instruments.
(custom wound upon request)

This replacement pickup is an accurate replacement neck pickup in the style of the late 70's era pickups which used the round rivet-head poles. I make each one by hand in my shop, this pickup is built with the same materials and methods as original pickups with our improved bobbin core which retains the traditional Rick tone but gives you much more of it.

Scatter-wound with #44 wire on hand-made FR4 bobbin cores, I use much better magnets than the weak compound-rubber OEM magnet, the difference is amazing, with this pickup your Rick can finaly keep up with modern bass instruments, no more weak/lame output, but plenty of the Rick tone. When you order a pickup with the aftermarket chrome cover I assemble it with a much better wire-lead method that does away with bare, un-shielded, solder joints under the pickups (per OEM construction), my pickups have the signal wires shielded entirely to the pickup coil for the lowest possible stray hum/noise.

Standard replacement wind is ~7.6K DCR, or if you wish, I will custom wind to your spec at no extra charge

This pickup fits inside your original OEM chrome cover/backplate assembly, to install new core you first remove the four corner screws/nuts from your chrome cover/backplate, then remove your old pickup, replace with new pickup, and re-assemble chrome cover/backplate assembly. Alternatively, if your order your pickup with the aftermarket chrome cover, this pickup will be delivered completely assembled with lead wire ready to solder into your control cavity.

Pickup Covers

Our aftermarket replacement pickup covers function and look very nice, the lip on the inside edge of the face on the open-covers (where the pickup core shows through) is slightly wider than the lip of an OEM open-cover, this effects the look only, functionally it actually offers slightly better shielding. Our Classic-T style covers do not have the wider lip.

Each cover includes: (1) top cover, (1) bottom plate, (4) screws, and (4) nuts. You re-use your original (2) mounting screws/nuts that came with your instrument.

Our Classic-T (RB68N-CVR) cover has our own unique trade-dress which features a silvery colored beauty-plate covering the pickup core. The beauty-plate can be removed by the customer should they feel it inhibits their tone or sense of style in any way. This attractive look unmistakeably sets our cover apart from an OEM cover, ours having two vertical silvery stripes under a chrome cover, exclusively from Classic Amplification.
